An ecological place of high importance As we own a small apartment on the Island of Gozo, which we purchased for our retirement days, we make it a point to seek and find places of interest to visit on regular weekends. It was a lovely sunny day when we decided to head towards Saint Raphael Lake (San Raflu). The lake lies in a small rural area just outside the locality of Kerċem, at the south-west of the island of Gozo. It is approximately 148 metres above sea level and it is surrounded by two of the most important bays in Gozo; the Dwejra Bay to the left, and the Xlendi Bay to the right. The whole area is situated on layers of Upper, Middle and Lower Globigerina limestone (Franka ta’ Fuq, tan-Nofs u ta’ Taħt), which make up the base of the whole San Raflu area. The view is breath taking.

San Raflu has always been a center for agricultural activity, which has grown in the twentieth century. It is called San Raflu u Sarraflu most probably after the Archangel St. Raphael, although the reason for this is quite unknown. The area centers around a man-made hole which gathers water and is home to several different marine organisms and other freshwater forms of life, such as ducks, fish, and frogs. Originally, the Maltese native frog (Discoglossus pictu) inhabited the pond. As the soil is quite fertile it also boasts of a diversity of flora and fauna throughout the year, making it an ecological place of high importance.

From what one can notice, the farming techniques used in the area are on the whole more primitive in respect of another agricultural area, and this may very positive, as contamination of the soil is being avoided. Certainly, the quarrying industry is the most active in the area, with workers depending on it on a daily basis, however, this has not interfered with the natural landscape of the area.

It was an enjoyable day of sightseeing which came to an end after we stayed around to feed the numerous ducks with freshly baked bread bought from a bakery nearby.

Brilliant. This should be no. 1 attraction. I am 77 and found it easy, fun and a great way to get around and see places I would not otherwise be able to get to.

A fabulous time We had a great time with Xavier at the helm. He was very patient with us ( in our 60,s) he was very knowledgeable and we felt that we were not rushed to finish the tour. We took our time and Xavier went out of his way to make sure we were ok. Highly recommend. Ann and John ( Aussies)

The best way to see Gozo We spent four days on Gozo and the Segway tour was the best way to see the island. Although Gozo may seem small, its quite hilly and can take a while to get around without a car so Segways were perfect. Peter & Kevin were both so friendly and knowledgeable about the island. I would definitely do this again if we visit in the future as it was the highlight of the trip for me.

Just to name a few things that made this tour so special: flexibility, fun, hidden spots, plenty of stops to rest, length of the tour (3+ hours!), water provided, good condition of the Segways, price, recommendations for further trips/restaurants/etc... The e-bike tour was excellent from start to finish. We definitely wouldn’t have seen as much of the island (with the unique views and insights) if we had done this ourselves.

If you are looking for a unique and personalised tour like us (instead of a giant tour bus), this is the way to go!

Water and helmets were provided with the E-Bikes, I recommend bringing a backpack for a jacket if you are attending in March like us.

We were hosted by Kevin’s colleague Pierre who took us on a fantastic loop of Gozo.

It was fun being able to see how far we had ridden throughout the day, due to the routes that Pierre had planned.

We finished the tour with a cliff-side sunset which was blissfully serene. They can customise the tour based on morning or afternoon sessions.

Would recommend to family or friends. A general level of fitness is recommended but to be frank I’m really unfit and the e-bike settings make a lot of the journey a breeze.

We stopped at a bakery on the way to enjoy some local cuisine too.

More than just a Segway experience Many thanks to Xavier for our tour of the Ta Cenc area on Wednesday. We were delighted to find you had prepared well for our trip by providing water and sunscreen. The training was excellent and out confidence grew quickly meaning that we could concentrate on the many things you pointed out along the way. We bought some prickly pear marmalade at your recommendation and love it! Xavier showed us many of the flora and fauna of the area and knew the history of the various buildings near and far. I highly recommend this to everyone.

English and Segway together.. One of the best tours I have had.. Maybe the best 🙂 Segway was a part of my body yesterday.. I have to try again next week.. Peter is a great teacher and guide. I can recommend this experience to all..

Amazing way to view the island from a different angle. We saw places that we would otherwise not have visited by ourselves. The electric mountain bikes were easy to manage. You can still have as much fun on them as on any other bike, with the added comfort of a gentle push in the back on more difficult slopes. Suited for both experienced riders and newbies. Lee, our guide, was also extremely patient and caring for the less experienced riders. He looked out for the entire group. We also had great fun with him and the other people on our tour. Highly recommended activity.

Best Segway Tour ever! Ask for Peter Checkmate I have to say this Segway experience has been the best one yet. Went on one previously on Malta with a different company but this one stands head and shoulders above them. Me and my girlfriend completely enjoyed the whole experience (it was her first time). The route we went on could have been difficult if the instructor hadn't of been so good, our guide for the experience was Peter Checkmate he was a wealth of knowledge on the area and really made the whole trip from start to finish really enjoyable. It was our highlight of the holiday and would definitely recommend this company especially Peter as a guide. He also took lots of photos and videos and sent to us personally which in my opinion is really going the extra mile for customer satisfaction. Definitely going to be doing it again next time we are back. It was also cheaper and longer than previous company used so a real win win. Hovar 18th May Santa Lucija Our Segway tour was absolutely awesome, not only did Peter have all 3 of us first timers up and running quickly and safely with excellent tuition and guidance, but his on-going local knowledge and insights along the way was brilliant. We came away buzzing and highly recommend Gozo Segway to all including anyone who has never done it before. Thank you so much Peter, we will definately be doing Segway again and again !!!

We had a great time with Lee seeing the island of Gozo. We had amazing ftira (included in price), a great dip in the sea, and an impromptu trip to the Ta' Ċenċ Cliffs based on a request from someone in our troup. I will say that you are mostly off roads (not a bad thing in Gozo/Malta), so if you're not comfortable in some mountain-biking adjacent situations, this might not be for you--I had never done it before and was totally fine. The e-bikes were easy to use and a huge advantage.

Great and fun way to see the island! We booked the "Salt Pans to Ta'Pinu" tour and we loved it. So much fun and we could get to see very nice places and amazing views. I love Airbnb Experiences & Kevin’s definitely reinforced those feelings even more. Highly recommend this trip if you want to soak in Gozo as you zip on by the city. We had plenty of time to stop at our viewing points. It was great to be active as well & still living the luxury of the e-bikes!

Segway in Gozo in October Definitely recommend - Kevin was brilliant. we did a good tour, and we booked for 2 hours, but it lasted nearly 3 hours, and we had a coffee stop in a great little bay. After the tour, he sent loads of photos with great recommendations for places to go and restaurants.
I would book him again if we were to go to Gozo .
Also, anyone can do Segways. We are in our 50s and loved it.

Great views, fun and tour guide This really is a great way to see the island. We have been to Gozo 6 times but this tour gave a whole new perspective, with superb views and insights. I couldn't recommend this enough.
We also took a kayak tour but this was much more expensive and you only saw rock faces and a few caves. This is segway tour is a much better and easier way to see the island.

A great way to explore Gozo - highly recommended I did a private tour of 2 hours in the area of ta'cenc and sannat. It was a lot of fun and one of the best ways to experience the beauty of Gozo. Javier was a great guide - very knowledgable, friendly and a good company.

Super tour ! La découverte du Segway est tout simplement extra... très facile à utiliser, tout le monde peut y arriver et c’est vraiment sans risque.
Nous avons fait le tour de 2:30/3h et franchement ça passe très vite, les km défilent c’est l’avantage...
Petit bémol pour l’accompagnateur qui, au demeurant très sympa, n’est pas un guide... donc pas de description (même succincte) des monuments et lieux découverts. Sinon tout est ok

An excellent birthday present to give! It was a marvelous experience I've had in a while, we saw the best sites of gozo, better than walking it for sure, very informative tour with two of the best hosts!

I definitely recommend it to whoever visits gozo because it was really worth every penny.

It's fun with a view! This is probably the best way to get around Gozo and properly enjoying the great views. Given that the segways are small and rather fast one can combine a number of sight seeing areas very few manage to get to, and without getting tired. Moreover, the prices and the various tours one can choose from add up to a package that can truly be described as one of 'value for money'. Lastly, being accompanied by Kevin the funny tour leader can only be described as a plus! Definitely thumbs up for the Gozo Segway tours! 🙂

Fantastic experience! Real highlight of our trip! Myself and my girlfriend decided to do the 3 hour tour in the area near to Marsalforn. We had never been on a Segway before, but within 10 minutes our fantastic guide Peter had shown us all we needed to know and had us competently using the segways. As a plus, this training is not even using up any of the time of the 3 hour tour.
When we got going, we found Peter to be extremely knowledgeable about the area. On top of this, he was very friendly and easygoing throughout.
These tours are great value and I would recommend them to everyone who will be spending time on Gozo!! We will definitely be going on more of these tours when we are back!
