FAQ

What is it like to glide on a Segway?

Gliding on a Segway Personal Transporter feels like nothing you’ve ever experienced! Step on and your instincts take over. You’ll quickly realize that the Segway PT will respond similarly to how you balance yourself – as if it were an extension of your body. Simply lean forward slightly and the PT will move in response. It all feels incredibly natural and really cool. Be aware that riding a Segway is highly addictive!

I've never ridden a Segway before; will I be able to pick it up quickly?

Your safety is always our highest priority; therefore, we begin each tour with a very thorough orientation of the Segway and its use before going out to enjoy the tour! Each of our tours will begin with a short safety talk followed by time to personally practice with your tour guide. We will take time to practice on the Segways until everyone feels comfortable.

I have ridden a segway before; is there anything I should know?

We do our best to make accommodations for returning riders once we get out on tour, however please be aware that we prefer to train new riders first to give them as much time as possible to practice. While some returning guests wonder why they can’t simply be set up on their machines and left to explore, we ask that you remain patient while we allow first-time riders to get acclimated with a minimum of distractions or other riders in the training area. These delays are usually 5-10 minutes at most and help us keep our training area as safe and efficient as possible.

Are reservations required?

Reservations are required for every tour we offer. All customers will be accommodated in the best possible manner based on guide and Segway availability. Our tours fill to capacity on a regular basis. For this reason we highly suggest making a reservation online or contacting us directly to make a reservation. We don’t want to fill our tour and miss showing you around!

Are tours cancelled in case of rain?

No. Our tours operate rain or shine. We will provide you a free poncho if it’s raining!

What else is included with a Gozo Segway Tour?

With every tour we provide free on-site Training, a helmet (and a hair-net), a poncho (if it’s raining) photo/video documentation of your tour and free refreshments on our longer routes.

Can you pick us up from our hotel / farmhouse?

Yes. If you have no means of transport, we can pick you up and take you back home for a small extra fee of 5 euro p.p.. For those of you staying in Malta, we can come pick you up from the Mgarr ferry Terminal as well.

Are the tours offered in any other languages? Or only English?

No. Our tour guides also speak Italian, a little bit of French and German, and will teach you some Maltese phrases along the way!

How big will my group be?

Keeping your well-being in mind, and to give you a more personal experience, our tours operate in groups of between 2 and 6 people per tour guide. We can operate with tours slightly larger, but will only do so in special situations.

What if my party is more than 6 people?

If the party is larger than 6, the group can be split up for any of our standard tours. We can take larger groups as private tours; however those are subject to different pricing and plans and must be made in advance to make allowances for tour guides and machines.

Can we bring light snacks or drinks along with us on our tour?

Of course you can! However we advise that you put them – along with any other personal belongings – in a haversack or back-pack so you can ride your Segway comfortably. If you like we can also prepare a light local snack for you, at a small extra cost. If interested, please discuss this when booking your tour in advance. (Please note that Gozo Segway Tours is owned by the same management team of ‘La Petite Creperie’, one of Gozo’s most popular mobile Kiosks – and therefore your snacks will be prepared by a qualified chef approved by the Food Safety Commission.

What should I wear for the tour?

We advise you to wear comfortable footwear and clothing. During the hot summer months please remember to protect yourself by wearing some sun-block before your tour. And for the ladies, please No high heels! And no long and loose skirts that could get stuck in the wheels.

Are there any age restrictions?

For safety reasons, a person must be at least 12years old to ride a Segway. Minors (anyone under the age of 18) must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

Does the Segway PT have weight limits?

Yes. Segway sets weight limits for rider safety and to reduce the risk of damage to a Segway PT. A rider must not be less than 100 lbs. (45 kg). The PT’s maximum payload (which includes the rider and all cargo) is 260 lbs. (117 kg). The total weight of any handlebar cargo plus any additional attachments hanging from the handlebar should not exceed 10 lbs. (4.5 kg).

Are the Segways safe for children or people with disabilities?

We have had several people with disabilities join our tours. The necessary range of motion required to operate a Segway is similar to that of being able to transfer weight from one foot to another while walking. Also, riding a Segway does require the need to be able to stand for long periods of time.

If I am pregnant can I join the tour?

Due to the risk to both child and mother, pregnant women are not allowed to participate on our Segway Tours.

How fast can the Segway PT travel?

Each Segway PT is equipped with two operational settings, ‘beginner’ or ‘turtle’ mode and ‘standard’ mode. The beginner setting is set to 6 mph/13 kph and the standard setting is set to travel up to 12.5 mph/20 kph.

What time do I need to get there for my tour?

Your tour will start promptly at the scheduled time, therefore please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour departure time in order to complete the necessary paperwork.

Am I allowed to take pictures during the tour?

Absolutely! However, we do recommend that you ask your guide to take your pictures so you can focus on riding and balancing on your Segway. Short stops along the route will allow for some time to step down from your machine to take photos and our guides are more than happy to take photos of you and your group on the segways as well. Your guide will also be wearing a GoPro camera on his helmet, and will provide you with free photos/video of your tour!

Do you organise any other team-building activities?
